Briefly: SanDisk, Sisvel settle; new memory
In brief: SanDisk and Sisvel have settled a legal dispute, SanDisk has begun shipping new SD cards, Other World Computing is demonstrating external hard drives, and the creator of the iPhone "Hello" ad has accepted a position at Rockstar Games. SanDisk has resolved a legal conflict with Italian company Sisvel, which accused the memory maker of failing to license the MPEG codec for its Sansa MP3 players. Products were actually confiscated by German police at the 2006 IFA expo in Berlin, but SanDisk has now acquired an official license and all litigation has been suspended.
New SanDisk SD cards
SanDisk has unveiled two new memory products which include its first 8GB SDHC card. The company will likely begin shipping the 8GB SDHC card in April for $190. Coming in the general spring timeframe is the Mobile Premier microSD cards, which have read and write speeds of 10MB/s and 9MB/s, respectively. The company plans to sell its microSD cards in 1GB ($45) and 2GB ($70) capacities.
OWC shows off external hard drives
Other World Computing is using the Annual Trade Show of the Associated Professional Photographers of Illinois, March 18th to the 21st, to promote its Mercury Elite-AL line of external hard drives. Prices start at $110 for an 80GB FireWire 400 drive, extending as high as $2,000 for a 1.5TB RAID configuration.
iPhone ad creator hired by Rockstar
Alex Moulle-Berteaux has been hired as the Head of Marketing at Rockstar Games. Moulle-Berteaux was previously the Worldwide Group Account Director for the Apple account at TBWA, which recently created the iPhone "Hello" ad aired during the Oscars. Rockstar is well-known in the gaming industry, having developed titles such as Bully, Manhunt and the Grand Theft Auto series.
