Review: Soloist Universal Sound System
Satellite Radio Source recently provided Digital Home with an interesting speaker docking system that we think will appeal to anyone with a newer Sirius satellite radio receiver and / or an iPod music player. Our editor Hugh Thompson had a chance to spend several weeks with the Soloist Universal Sound System from Directed Electronics and came away impressed.
Overview
The Soloist is a universal media dock with a flat NXT stereo sound panel that will accept seven different Sirius radios (Stiletto 10 & 100, Sportster 3 & 4, Starmate 3 & 4 and the Stratus) and all iPod 30-pin media players via interchangeable plastic cradles. Once you've placed one of the three supplied cradles into the Soloist, you can slide your satellite radio receiver or iPod media player into the Soloist and you're ready to listen to music. While music plays, the device will also recharge the batteries in your Stiletto or iPod.Additional features of the Soloist include a built-in alarm clock and snooze button, front panel Aux Inputs for connecting another music source and headphone jacks. On the rear panel you’ll find an additional auxiliary input and output for connecting to your home theatre or computer. You’ll also find a USB jack which supports file transfer to a Stiletto 10 or Stiletto 100.Inside the box, you'll find the Soloist sound system, an indoor/outdoor antenna, cradle adapter sleeves, iPod-compatible cradle, AC adapter and remote.
